Tonglen Lake Lodge Works With Local Producers All Throughout Denali And Alaska

We are proud to be able to feature the hard work and commitment to excellence of the talented farmers and craftspeople across the state. Below are just a few of the many amazing Alaskans we are able to work with.

Denali Organic Growers

Jimmie and Laura Hendricks run a small organic farm approximately forty five minutes North of Tonglen Lake Lodge that produces much of the produce used at the Lodge. Working with a short but intense growing season, they manage to grow an astounding variety of quality produce. They’ve lived in the area for decades, and have grown food for this community in a variety of ways over the years. From teaching summer interns about the intersection of clean food and clean environments, to working with schools showing kids the beauty of locally gown produce, Jimmie and Laura are amazing people to work with.

Laura has also helped our teams over the years manage stress and build collaboration through a series of workshops on Ayurvedic energy, as well as through yoga classes which are open to guests. Jimmie has educated and delighted our guests over the years with his presentations on his summiting of Denali, which gives a personal account of a harrowing journey

Barnacle Foods

Barnacle Foods was founded by Matt and Lia – both born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. To them, there’s nothing better than the edible wonders each season brings and coming together around food. Once they met, our cupboards began overflowing with mason jars of preserved coastal foods. Their company now produces a variety of Kelp based products ranging from Kelp Chili Crisp to Spruce Tip Jelly.

They focus on education and sustainability in the fragile ecosystem of Southeast Alaska. Visit them here to learn more about kelp and the role it plays in Alaska’s waters.

10th and M Seafood

In 1943, 10th and M Seafood started renting freezer space for hunters and fisherman in our state. Over the years they’ve developed a worldwide reputation for their custom processing services. From the pristine waters off the Alaskan coast comes the rich harvest available at 10th & M. They purchase fresh seafood from fishermen around the state for wholesale to Alaskan restaurants, and for shipment almost anywhere in the world.

Green Alaska Solutions

Green Alaska Solutionsmission is to reduce the environmental impact of food service packaging in Alaska. With this mindset, Green Alaska Solutions was created by founder Deborah O’Leary in 2008 as the first sustainability focused food service packaging business in Alaska. Their goal at inception was to create awareness of sustainable options in Alaska by providing renewable, plant-based and recycled packaging to the restaurant and food service industry. Besides working with the restaurant industry, Green Alaska Solutions is involved in large-scale community festivals and race events, replacing traditional disposables with biodegradable and compostable alternatives, and consulting on ways to minimize waste associated with said events.

For more information on these lower-impact packaging choices, check out Green Alaska Solutions’ page on why compostable packaging matters.

Kaladi Brother’s coffee

Kaladi Brothers Coffee started as Alaska’s first espresso cart in 1984, but has since grown into a coffee roaster preferred my many Alaskans. With cafes in towns across the state, Kaladi has maintained a standard of quality and excellence for their beans. Kaladi Brothers maintains their roots as an Alaskan company, with support for community and non-profit events. Their team even visits each year to help train our staff and calibrate our machines, so that guests at Tonglen Lake Lodge can enjoy the perfect cup every morning!

Local Breweries & Distilleries

Tonglen Lake Lodge works with a variety of Alaskan Breweries and Distilleries, with distinct styles and twists on classics. A few of our favorites even include unique Alaskan ingredients, such as spruce tips and Fireweed!
