What our guests have to say
Susie W08/09/2022A Must Stay in Denali We originally had a cruise planned to Alaska in 2020, with a follow on to Denali however, when we began to rebook, we decided to skip the cruise and boy are we glad we did! We stayed at Tonglen Lake Lodge for four days and three nights with my son who is 8, my mom in her 70's, my husband and my best friend. The property was so beautiful, the staff was wonderful and so friendly and welcoming. Had we not been so active during the day, the delicious food would have made us gain a few pounds. Everything from the time we booked, until we checked out was just perfect. They were so helpful in choosing the right activities for our family as well. An added bonus was not having to fight the crowds for dinner in town. I personally wouldn't stay anywhere is in the area! Thank you Tonglen Lake Team for helping us to create such a memorable family vacation!JPF200006/09/2022Stay here Nothing that hasn't already been said... rustic, homey, comfortable cabins, backed by a lodge with great staff and terrific food. Even without Denali NP just a short drive away, I'd come here just for the lodge. Highly recommended!fsoni01/09/2022Beautiful lodge, wonderful stay Our family of five stayed here for two nights and it was the highlight of our time in Alaska. The lodge is beautiful, the attention to detail is outstanding, everybody whom we met was kind and friendly, and the food was exquisite. Each and every staff member did everything possible to make sure we were happy and well cared for. Many thanks to Amanda, Erika and Jamie in particular for all your efforts. We truly hope to return one day!Mitchell K31/08/2022Alpine Gemutlicheit. Everything about Tonglen Lake Lodge is comfortable and artsy in a good way. The property is beautiful and the cabins are well appointed. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. The food was terrific, especially the pastries in the morning. To die for!gillian b29/08/2022Mrs Gilian Black Best cosy friendly place I have ever visited. Food delicious. Artisan feeling. Somewhere I'd like to visit again. From Scotland so it might be difficult. Donna and her team are wonderful. We arrived early two days ago ,just when they were having a Christmas meal and they were so helpful and nothing waa a problem . Worth a visit!Lauren V29/08/2022Peaceful Mountain Retreat My family (of 4) loved our 2 night stay at Tonglen Lake and wished it could have been longer. My son spent the rest of the trip talking about how he wished we were still there. The resort is set way back off the Parks Highway, at the end of a long unpaved road through thick woods, not near any other hotels - you feel you are in a truly remote location, it is so quiet and serene. It is all inclusive which is necessary given how far it is from any restaurants , and the food was truly fabulous. The cabin was very comfortable, as well as the bed, and very private. Only tiny complaint was I had to kill a lot of mosquitos and flies inside whenever we returned. Some additional shelving in the closet area would be useful too. I also think given the price tag the lodge would benefit from some kind of cozy lounge space with comfortable chairs/couches to hang out, use the WiFi (not available in the cabins), play board games, and talk to other guests after a day of adventures. Very much hope to return again someday! Thank You!Maggie28/08/2022Peaceful, delightful Lodge We wish we didn't have to leave this place. The staff is fantastic, very helpful and accomodating. Our cottage was darling, everything you would hope for in an Alaskan setting. I loved that there are no TV's on the property and Wi-fi only in the Lodge. The food is wonderful, freshly made to order, delicious lunches packed for day trips and a choice of two delectable entres for dinner. But you gotta eat the pastries. omg, the chocolate chip cookies are the best! Each evening, we had some offering such as yoga, an educational nature walk , and a fascintating presentation by owner Donna Gates on the Ididerod and dog racing. She is a dynamic person who has lived and raised a family in this remote area of Alaska. I could have spent the day with her just asking about her life. And she is a world renowned artist as well. This place is worth every single penny spent, we would go back in a heartbeat.JNH9903/08/2022Hands down the BEST Stay in Denali! No need to research places to stay near Denali -- this is the place to be. Donna, Callie, and their warm, kind, attentive team of employees make your stay a wilderness dream come true. Don't be fooled by the name -- the lodge is just a small, but wonderful, piece of this property. After a gorgeous drive up the driveway, you'll find the main building, the lodge, which is where you'll check in, select your breakfast and lunch items for the day, grab a refreshing drink, delicious coffee, and/or snack, find some games to play, and the wifi (if you need it). Upstairs is where you'll enjoy a delicious dinner that has be thoughtful put together by the exceptional culinary team; each meal was an absolute delight and served by the warmest of servers. The property consists of 10 fabulous, eco-friendly cabins placed generously along a horseshoe shaped path. Cars are parked in a separate parking lot. The cabin is spacious -- fitting me, my husband, and our two teenage children (sharing a pull out sofa). If you have grown/taller/bigger children you may need two cabins to have a proper sleep. We slept great - the bed was super comfortable. The scenery around the property is just gorgeous. If you're lucky, like we were, you may encounter a moose passing through the property! The walk along the drive will take you by the lake and beautiful flora and fauna. The lodge is located very close to the downtown strip which houses all the offices for the various fantastic activities you can participate in in the Denali area. The drive is easy and you'll appreciate the space between the commercial downtown area and the lodge. I noticed how there's a comment about price ... a few notes on that. First, travel in Alaska isn't cheap; the high season is short and there aren't many accommodations. So whether you're in Denali or down in Seward, just know that accommodations are pricey. Second, at the time of our travel, the lodge is all inclusive, meaning -- that all your meals in-house breakfast and dinner and to-go lunch are included. As are the bakery goods, snacks, coffee/teas, water, coconut water, electrolyte packages, gummy snacks, EVERYTHING, is included the price. In Alaska, these items can add up quickly. It's a welcome break from the nickel-and-diming one can experience elsewhere. If you come back from an excursion and want to grab a muffin and late you can! No wondering if it's going to cost you an arm-and-a-leg. And it's DELICIOUS. The only items that are not included are alcoholic beverages and tips. You'll tip at the end of the trip and it's shared by the whole team. We were delighted to stay at the Tonglen Lake Lodge and are sure you'll enjoy it too!Caitlin W30/07/2022Boutique Lodging in Denali Tonglen Lake Lodge is a family-run, family-feel hotel with so many personal touches to make you feel at home in the woods. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, the facilities are warm and homey, and the food is amazing! Our family stayed in the guest house and had a beautiful view of the lake from our bedroom window and the big deck. The kids paddled on the lake every day. We enjoyed the peace and serenity of being in Alaska without the feeling of staying in an overrun hotel- exactly what we were looking for! It just felt like home. They really thought of everything here!MauiEva04/10/2021Deeply relaxing and wonderful stay My husband and I stayed at theTonglen Lake Lodge for 4 nights in September 2021 in a cabin that was meticulously clean with a very comfortable bed. The entire property is very tranquil and beautiful and secluded from the main road. Everyone who works at the lodge is welcoming, helpful, and lovely . The included breakfast is delicious and there are many choices. We were showered with many extra touches that made us feel like treasured guests. The morning cafe staff even prepared our breakfast to go before 7 am on our departure day. The owner, Donna, is a wonderful artist and her work graces the dining area and the cabins. The entire property is lovingly and consciously created. We very much appreciated the Covid safety protocols as there was a rising outbreak in the Denali borough. I highly recommend staying at this lodge when you visit Denali National Park.
