COVID-19 Information and Protocols

We look forward to hosting you in our remote corner of the world. Everyone has been impacted in some way or form due to the COVID-19 outbreak. There is some important information we want to communicate to all our overnight guests before your arrival.

Your Health Care
Tonglen Lake’s mission is to share the best of its remote environment. That environment, like all of Alaska, includes both friendly and unfriendly microbes. And, yes, Covid-19 can hitch a ride to Tonglen Lake, by no design of ours. By staying at Tonglen Lake you are accepting responsibility for your personal health care. By becoming a guest, you are opening yourself to the unique Tonglen experience.

We want your visit to be safe and memorable.  We practice hygiene appropriate for our rural and rustic setting. We cannot, however, assure you of a germ or Covid-19 free environment. Please take such precautions as are advised by Alaska’s government leaders and your health care provider.

Alaska Health Advisory Statements on Travel
Health Advisory 2 - International and Interstate Travel:
While Alaska resident and non-resident travelers will no longer be required to have pre-travel negative tests upon arrival, it is still considered one of the best mechanisms to track the virus and prevent community spread.

Travelers should a) submit results of a pre-travel molecular-based test for SARS-CoV2 showing negative results from a test taken within 72 hours of departure into the Alaska Travel Portal or b) have proof of a negative test available to show screeners at the airport upon arrival. A second test taken between five and 14 days after arrival is also strongly recommended.

The advisory also includes an exemption for fully vaccinated individuals (defined as more than two weeks following receipt of the second dose). Fully-vaccinated travelers should follow pre-travel testing protocols.

The existing airport testing infrastructure will remain in place to protect Alaskans and visitors alike.

Current information can be found on the State of Alaska’s COVID Information webpages: Alaska COVID Mandates AND Alaska Traveler Information.

If you fall ill during your time at Tonglen Lake, COVID-19 tests are available at different locations throughout the Denali Borough. If you test positive, you will be required by the State of Alaska to self isolate at your own expense in a designated location, and you will not be able to travel unless cleared by public health.

Our Protocols
Social distancing: We will offer the option of contactless check-ins until otherwise advised by the CDC and State of Alaska. We will also have a plexiglass barrier set up in our office to greet you in person; masks are required in our public spaces. Our staff are always just a phone call away. If anything arises during your stay, or if you have any questions about your time in Denali, we will be available and happy to help. The Artisan Café will be closed to the public during the 2021 summer season to ensure our guests exclusive use of the space. Guests will order their breakfast and select a dining time the evening prior to ensure spaced-out seating the prompt service.

Face masks: We will wear a face mask when interacting with your party. We have disposable face masks and reusable face coverings available for you to use in our public spaces (some tours may also require them for all or part of their activity). We thank you for respecting the health of our staff and your fellow guests.

Sanitizing and cleaning: All spaces will be cleaned with sanitizing solution, followed by all “touch” surfaces being disinfected with a bleach solution. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the main buildings. We will have turndown service for guests staying three or more nights. If you are staying for one or two nights and your cabin/room requires any additional amenities or attention, please ask!

Upon your arrival we will have you sign a waiver releasing Tonglen Lake Lodge from any claim for contracted disease and for claims stemming from the inherent nature of rustic and rural living. We trust you to be aware of these risks prior to travel, and we will take all necessary steps to help keep you and our community healthy.
